In a golf swing, you want your arm and body working together to accomplish the goal of a good golf shot. An example of the arms and body not working well together can be seen in the above video,on the right. Marcel’s body is winding up, turning and coiling while his arms separate from his torso and lift vertically. This vertical lift robs Marcel of precision, timing, power and makes it difficult for him to make partial swings.
After we settled on needing to make a change, we looked for a way for Marcel to practice this on his own. That’s an important part of a good golf lesson. Can you practice this and get better without a coach giving you feedback on every move. In the video below, you’ll see that he has a red therapy band wrapped around his belt and in the grip of his club. If he lifts his arms he’ll feel the therapy band stretch early in his takeway. He know’s he made a successful takeaway if he keeps the slack in the band until the club head gets about hip high in his backswing.
