Do you every have trouble controlling the direction the ball initially takes off in? You’re on a par 3, you make a swing, look up and the ball is just nowhere near where you wanted it to start? If that’s ever happening to you, it just means that you’re having a hard time controlling where this club face points at impact. Where the club face points at impact is almost wholly responsible for the initial direction the ball take off in. I’ll prove it to you. I’m going to use this machine TrackMan, that we use in all our lessons here to give us feedback on what’s happening at the moment of impact. So, I’m going to hit a couple of shots here all in different directions and show you what I’m talking about. I’m going to hit one where the ball starts way over there to the right, for me a lefty, it means I have a closed club face. So here we go…You’re going to see on the screen there that that ball is flying is flying out of my bay and onto the right and that club face number is going to be positive something. 4 or 5, something like that. 6. So that club face is pointed 6 degrees to the right at the moment of impact. Now I want to feel something totally different than that, so on this next one I’m going to rehearse where I have this club face feeling more open and hitting over there to the left part of my driving range. That one’s dead at the target. So that can show you how you need to practice some of these things. So that club face is gonna be just a little bit to the left. It started left and came back. So 3 degrees open. The club face was open to the target, that why on the screen you see, it starts left of the target and comes back. And then now, we’re going to have one where the club face is pretty square at impact and we’re going to try and get it somewhere between those two, 6 and 3. We’re going to try and get in between them. So that one starts pretty close to the target line and curves a little bit to the right. But where the club face was pointing is what sent that ball on it’s journey. That club face was pointed right at the target line and then curving. So just remember, ” the club face sends it, and the path bends it”. Check back here, we’ll do a video on path and then you’ll really have an idea of how to point this face and control the path and then control your ball.
